Final Video

Art Works

When I looked around at the works of other students a few csught my attention more than anything.
I really like this one for example, in my opinion it looks like something right out of a dream, not a nice one either.
This on the other hand looked simple and I just caught myself staring at the little animal.
I really loved the colors on this one and it just looked different from the others.
I just had to put this one that I found there, it is from my classmate and friend Michael.

Flipbook

I already had in mind how tedious doing this kind of thing was because of the animations I used to do on my laptop when I was younger but doing it by hand made me notice how much I hate drawing in paper.

Nonsense Product

For my nonsense project I thought about it and remembered a picture of a fork which had a chain handle and thought wow that is useless but someone would buy it.

Tired of your fork bending out of shape when you put it in your bag? Won't fit anywhere? Does not look interesting enough? Look no more for $9.99 you can get your very own fork chain and if you order now you also get the spoon chain for free!

A capella

I was going through some of the readings and videos and came across the a capella cover of Paradise by Mike Tompkins and it caught my attention.
A capella showed me just how skilled some people can be and how even though some people can't sing some other people can make so much more with themselves, I would very much like to learn how to do even half of what Mike does since it sounds so cool and good but more than anything it looks fun.
I do doubt I will train enough to become good at it if I ever try it though.

Yoshi!

We were supposed to make some grid art and what I understood by that was pixel art but it was supposed to be done with object which were not square or rectangular to begin with so I chose to use skittles for my art.
This little Yoshi took me around an hour and a half to organize and make and though it would have been much easier to make had I made a grid before starting I chose to just place them until they formed what I wanted, I used a 1 pound bag of skittles which was more than enough and I even had extras to eat once I was done and for the white in the eyes, nose and neck I used ice breakers.
This project was really fun but I would not like to repeat it since I am more of a tech guy than a hands on.

Repo the Genetic Game

Repo the Genetic Game
The game itself is a MOBA or, Multiplayer online battle arena, it is a real game strategy game where 5 versus 5 players will try to destroy the other’s GeneCo. To win the game, the game will follow the common MOBA maps and be a three lane with 2 sides to a jungle which sum up to four if separated into enemy side and ally side. The lanes are separated into Top lane, Top Jungle, Mid Lane, Bottom Jungle and Bot Lane. Like in DoTa the game will have a long safe lane and a short normal lane, players are supposed to farm creeps and have 15 levels as the time passes the creeps will become stronger and give more gold and more experience. The point of the game is to destroy the guard towers and then destroy the money banks to reach GeneCo. The team which destroys the enemy GeneCo. Wins.
The creeps are organs that you must harvest Kidneys which are melee and the Pancreas which shoot juices at you as ranged magic dealers, in the jungle you can find various camps of monsters which range from 2 Eyes and 2 Corneas for 4 monsters which provide vision wards which can be placed around the map, the Liver which gives the “poison” effect to whoever attacks he who killed it, the pair of Lungs which provide extra movement speed for the Top Jungle and for the Bottom Jungle you can find the Intestines which provide extra health and health regen and there are 4 pieces of Skin which provide and armor and magic resist buff and the last camp is the Tendons which provide the ranged players with more range and the melee with an AoE attack.
On the separation for Top Jungle there is a bigger than normal monster which is the Skeleton it provides the team with stacks.

Stack 1: gives the team Sticking Bones Buff, bleed damage were with every hit the enemy bleeds over time losing health.
Stack 2: Gives the team Gold Bones Buff, farming creeps will provide more gold.
Stack 3: Gives Wisdom Bones Buff, more experience per kill.
Stack 4: Gives Exoskeleton Buff, protecting the team from a percent of the damage dealt to them.
Stack 5: Gives the team Fire Bones Buff, they are on fire applying ignite to enemies, this ability can be proc by the AoE circle of fire around the players or any sort of spell that targets opponents and ignite will lower healing abilities.
The players you can choose are:
-Shilo Wallace: she is a mage with various effects such as the ability “Infected” a passive that gives DoT per normal attack. “Shilo Wakes” She boosts herself gaining movement speed and “Infected” Damage. “21’st Century Cure” Where Shilo heals herself or a teammate for a percent of health, and her Ultimate Ability “Genetic Emancipation” She instantly deals tremendous damage to any player in an area.
-Rotti Largo: “Things You See in a Graveyard” is Rotti’s passive which allows him to gain random buffs or money out of corpses of the enemies, “Limo Ride” allows Rotti to channel while he moves in a limo at high speed and deals damage to the first target struck, “Seeing You Stirs Memories” Magic damage to target player and applies confusion were he can hurt teammates, "Pièce De Résistance" Rotti receives damage against towers and Banks.
-Nathan Wallace: is an assassin style character, his passive “Legal Assassin” allows him to deal extra damage per attack, “Thankless Job” is a passive that provides Nathan with the ability to hold buffs for longer, “Night Surgeon” is a passive that allows him to blend into the shadows and go invisible, “Tonight We Are Betrayed” if Nathan took a damage from a source that source receives X2 damage from Nathan, “I Didn’t Know I’d Love You So Much” If a teammate were to take damage Nathan can blink towards the source of the damage and if the teammate dies the source takes X6 damage.
-Blind Mag: “Tao of Mag” is her passive allowing her to dodge damage randomly, “Chase the Morning” allows Mag to run faster towards enemies and targets, “Everyone’s a Composer” allows Mag to shout dealing high magic damage to her enemy, “Chromaggia” is her ultimate and it lets her see for a limited time places darkened by the shadows of the city finding targets that may be hidden.

Opera and Flip Book

For my opera I chose Repo the Genetic Opera, I watched the movies a while ago with my friends and it was so weird for me at first but after a while I found that I actually liked the music, the theme for the music is very dark which can add to the ambien of the game I have in mind which will probably be kind of like a puzzle hack 'n slash game, something along the lines of Alice Madness.

My idea for the flip book is the story if a bunny, probably dancing, playing, and doing random stuff as it lives its life and maybe finds new friends, it is just the story of a bunny in the end.

Digital Art Exhibition

I do not normally go to exhibitions, I have almost never been in one but after going to this one I might just change that.
In this exhibition I saw art that really made me think such as the work of Santiago Echeverry who opened my eyes to new forms of art and new things that can be used for art such as the kinect to do great digital art.
I was fascinated by the animations since I am a huge fan of that type of art, all animations seemed really interesting and what really attracted my attention was the fact that it was all done with open source.
I would not mind going to another one next time one happens around here.

My name is Juan David Samara and this is my blog for Art 211.

My first thoughts about that class were that it was weird to have an art and technology class without having computers in front of us since the last art class I took was in a lab where we worked on the computers everyday, the desks do make me feel like I am back in high school but not in a bad way.

If I had to describe myself in some words I would say crazy and spontaneous, also a weirdo. I was born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras and I lived there for 18 years before coming to UT to study, I am a NMP major and this is my second year at UT, I am also into Japanese culture and am a fan of their comics (manga) and cartoons (anime).

What I expect from this class is to be able to draw my full potential to make works I can be proud of, I also hope to have a lot of fun in the class.
